Epic Desert Fat Camp...Part 1

This past spring my best friend, Shanon, aka Sibs, and I decided to head down to Southern Utah and get back into the shape for the upcoming Olympic year. I had originally planned on flying solo, but when Sibs found out about the trip she wanted to take Yeti's place in the car. Unfortunately for the white dog he got booted by Sibs. There was no real set agenda for the trip, just head down there and put in the miles. Our only real plans were to camp and live by the mantra of..."It has to be EPIC!" Yes, we did live up to that mantra the whole time!

All good cyclists know that any good ride always starts at a coffee shop. Laid Back Larry's is where we started from in Kanab. Fueled with caffeine and egg sandwiches we were ready to go!

(Lunch Break at the BLM office in Paria)

We started our adventure off in Kanab, UT. Sibs has always wanted to bike tour. I had been trying to figure out a way to bike tour down there, but after having spoken to some of the local bike shop guys my planned route was not looking so great due to the late snow we had this spring. Norman helped us out to plan a little 48 hour bike trip loop from Kanab to Page, AZ and then back to Kanab. Sibold and I were all in for this. We packed our credit cards, toothbrushes, and camelbacks and headed out into the desert together. The first day went crazy well. It was pretty much downhill and we road about 80 miles in 3 hours 40 mins. Not bad for just the two of us We were really feeling like Tour de France quality riders after this trip! Page, AZ is beautiful and home to the famous Lake Powell. If only we could have fit our swimsuits in our backpacks with us!

The bridge that we were about to cross en route into Page, AZ
Looking down from the bridge...Pretty cool!
The Dam and Lake Powell from the bridge.

YEAH! Location number 1 Page, AZ we made it there in killer time without any problems.
