Vancouver Training Camp

This past summer we took a trip back to Vancouver for an on ice training camp there. It was awesome! There are only limited times when international skaters may access the building and we were allowed to be on the ice for 3 weeks in July. (Those Canadians are playing a bit nasty this time around.) It was great to have the opportunity to skate at the oval, but even better was the chance to get a feeling for the city of Vancouver. It is absolutely amazing. It is a beautiful city full of culture, amazing restaurants, and incredible landscapes. I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to really explore the city and get to know it much better. The end result...Vancouver and I are best friends now! Below are some pics of our trip and the places that we got to explore.
Check that out...yes those are oysters! Welcome to RODNEY'S Oyster House! It is awesome. Now I'm not one to eat oysters in fact I find them quite disgusting, but this place is great. It has a killer atmosphere and delicious food. We discovered Rodney's when we were here for the worlds back in March. We new that Rodney's was going to be the first place for us to eat at when we arrived in Vancouver.
Bottoms up for Josh!
Myself, Laura, and Rodney! Well not really Rodney but he has become our regular server whenever we come here. Gotta love the locals....so friendly!
The view from Granville Island. Granville is fantastic. It is an island right in the heart of downtown Vancouver that is full of art galleries, boutiques, killer restaurants and the Public Market! The Public Market is an indoor farmers market that is insane. After having walked through it my friendship with Vancouver became even greater!
Street performers on Granville Island.
The crew out for dinner at the Sandbar...it's no Rodney's but still pretty good.
Ahh back to Stanley Park! My favorite park of all Vancouver. I actually managed to get back there 4 times during this training camp. And even got to go for a run around the park. I would rank that run in my Top 5 of best runs ever!
Gotta love the Totem Poles in Stanley Park

Sunset out on the bay, and the flowers in the park were incredible...guess that is one of the bonuses of coming here in the summer time.

Justin's nickname growing up was and still is coonpup.....so here we have the coonpup feeding the coon. How ridiculous is that.
Beautiful views of Lions Gate Bridge during sunset.
The Grouse Grind! Laura and I were the only two brave enough to tackle the local mountain. On our last day in town we decided to tackle this local challenge. We showed up there at 8 am and it was like we had joined the local masses to make the famed pilgrimage to the top. In just under an hour we made it up to the top and got to check out the surrounding views of Vancouver.

The trail exit of the Grouse Grind!
At the top of Grouse Mt. you can cruise around check out the lodge. They have lots of exhibitions that go on there and even have a bear refuge! How cool is that...this really makes me feel like I am at home!
