Hey Everyone,
I have finally entered the wedding blog world! How scary is this...although I was advised that this might be a good idea to keep everyone posted on what is going on with the greatest show on earth...our wedding. (Especially since we are taking a non-traditional road to the alter.) We have finally set an official date, September 4, 2008. We are having a very small family ceremony in Moab, Utah, and then a huge reception bash up at our Mt. House on Mt. Aire, September 6, 2008. Mark your calendars people it is going to be great! And why stop with just one bash? For those of you who are unable to attend our reception on top of Mt. Aire we are planning a second bash September 13, 2008 in the village of Elm Grove, WI...that's right it's a village but we can throw a great party there. So non-traditional we are and cross country this celebration shall be! Marc and I are very excited about what is to come in our future, and are thrilled that we can use our wedding as an opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
We chose, well lets be honest I chose Moab, because after visiting there with two of my best girlfriends from Calgary I fell in love with this little desert town. Not to mention the beloved Mt. Man, recovering from an apparent attempt on his life due to poor food preparation the night before, was there to guide us through the San Rafael Swell, Arches National Park, and of course heat stroke. (What a real trooper he is!) Despite the illnesses I would have to say that our trip to Moab was one of my best getaways ever. To be in Moab with my best friends and my Mt. Man was a recipe for a fantastic trip. Despite Marc's desire to get married in Stanley, Idaho, another favorite getaway spot, he to agreed that Moab was a great place. After all he and our friend Scott Zenoni did live in a Moab campground for four plus weeks; once could consider them former Moab residents. Below are a few links to the city of Moab and things that you can see and look forward to while visiting.
In September of 2006 Marc and decided to look at buying a house together in Utah. The Mt. Man having a love for the outddorrs and I acquiring a love for the outdoors (not nearly to the same extent because he is loco for it) narrowed down our search for a house to a few locations. We needed to be close to if not in the mountains and have ample yard space for our four-legged friend to play. Our agent, Sue, sent us a listing for a gorgeous log house, located ni the mountains, on two acres of land, but we couldn't pinpoint it's exact location. We kinda tossed it aside, but after a few weeks Marc was determined to find this house and set off on his mountain bike to do so. He pedaled up the road, and when he was just about to give up he foudn the house. He came home to tell me, "Call Sue, we have to go and look at this house...just look at it with me." A few days later we piled into Sue's car, and made our way up a twisty, steep, and eventually dirt road. Having been out bid on a few houses, Marc questioned me right away. "Yes or no do you want this house?" My reply back was, "Hell no!" What was this Mt. man thinking taking me to a house clinging to the edge of a mountain, that in the winter I was going to have to snow mobile into. Did he not realize that I was a girl from a village; that eventually moved to the city! As the days passed I began to fathom the idea of living on a mountain, the quite, the solitude, and the beauty. All the snow that could be mine to snow shoe, Marc's to ski in, and Yeti's to roll in. I finally confessed to Marc that maybe we should call Sue and find out what it would take to get this house. Within a few weeks we were filling out paper work to make this house ours.
We have officially been in our house for 13 months and have loved almost every moment. (We did not love the snowmobiles breaking down, our frozen pipe scare, or Marc living without power in mid January for five days.) But we do love the fact that we rush home every night to see the sunset, to watch the thunderstorms roll in, the snowflakes fall down from the sky, and the animals roam our driveway. (We have become amateur weather men...and I proud to say I can speak snowflake!) We spend our summer days hiking from the house, picking wildflowers, mountain biking, standoffs with our neighbor Bullwinkle the moose, and of course getting ready for winter. We spend our winters building snow stairs so we can get to the front door, skiing off the driveway, snow-shoeing, standoffs with our neighbor Bullwinkle the moose, and my favorite butt sledding on the mountainside.
We knew that our first year here was going to be our hardest because we had no idea what to expect. Marc promised me a few weeks out before we moved in that he would do everything to make it as easy as possible for me to live on the mountain. And he has lived up to his promise. He started, turned, and fixed snowmobiles for me. He waited at the gate in the cold to make sure I made it home safely. He listened to me cry and curse on the phone when I couldn't get the snowcat started, and reassured me he would be home right away to help, trying very hard at the same time not to laugh. Our little house is the last one on the road at the top of Mt. Aire and we love it.
We know that given the pending greatest show on earth a.k.a our wedding, many people have been asking what we need for our house. Marc and I have both lived on our own for many years and merged our many belongings together here in Mt. Aire. As a result we primarily desire unique items that will help us enjoy our house in the mountains even more. We understand these are far from the traditional things newlyweds register for, but any assistance we can get that will allow us to purchase these items would be greatly appreciated. We hope that many of you would like to help us make our new house truly "our" home. Below are links to places where we have registered for some traditional items and also to our unique ones too.
Once again Marc and I couldn't be more excited about having everyone join us to celebrate our marriage. It is truly a day that we have been looking forward to for a long time and feel fortunate that we are able to share it with our family and friends.
Stay linked to our blog for any updates on the wedding planning and we look forward to seeing you all soon.
All the best,
Marc, Cat., and YETI

Great job on the story - I loved it, can't wait to have you in the family.
Personally, I think Marc Raney Norman has a nice ring to it, at least we know who wears the pants in this house!
